This week, we launched our inaugural, grassroots, fundraising campaign: #DreamSchoolKC.
The campaign challenges everyone from educators, parents, students, to architects and business leaders, to re-imagine what school could be and help make those dreams possible through any donation. There are no holds barred on this one - dream, and dream big. If you could have your dream school, we asked, what would it look, feel, be like? Responses have ranged from the expansion of seemingly "normal" opportunities (whiteboard walls), to extreme ideas (outdoor classrooms - dinos, anyone?).
More than a fundraising campaign, #DreamSchoolKC is the creative outlet to all who have ever thought school to be, well...BORING. As the future of education continues to evolve, we at The Lean Lab believe that "fixes" to the system will not be sufficient to give all students access to excellent and innovative educational opportunities. Instead, we need to think and dream beyond the traditional four walls of a classroom to prepare our students for tomorrow's world; it is a world that is constantly-evolving at an exponential rate due to technological advancements and global interconnectedness. We cannot predict the future 5 years from now, let alone 20, so let's transcend the way we think about education and its purpose, meaning, and application. Let's make school less boring, and in the process, spur education innovation from the creativity of the Kansas City community.
We invite you to be part of this thought project: tell us about your dream school. Draw it, show it, say it - format doesn't matter. The only requirement is you think beyond even your own experience in education and imagine the possibilities if there were no rules, stipulations, or limits on what you could learn and accomplish.
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
